Saxitoxin (PSP) Alert™ Test Strip Shellfish; 20-Test
Request InfoSensoreal PSP Alert™ is a rapid immunochromatographic lateral flow assay designed for the qualitative and semi-quantitative screening of saxitoxin and related paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) in bivalve mollusks (mussels, oysters, clams, scallops, geoduck). The assay uses a competitive immunoassay format. Saxitoxin is extracted from homogenized shellfish tissue using a proprietary aqueous extraction solution. The extract is then diluted and incubated with a lyophilized antibody–gold nanoparticle conjugate. If saxitoxin (or a recognized saxitoxin analogue) is present in the sample, it binds to the conjugate antibodies, reducing the amount of free antibody–gold complex available. The mixture is then applied to the lateral flow cassette and migrates across a membrane containing immobilized saxitoxin-protein at the test line. A control line must appear for the test to be considered valid, confirming proper sample migration and assay performance. Test-line intensity is inversely related to toxin concentration: as the concentration of saxitoxin (or recognized saxitoxin analogues) increases, the intensity of the test line decreases. A negative result is indicated when the test line color is equal to or greater than the intensity of the control line, indicating that the assay did not detect saxitoxin (or a recognized saxitoxin analogue) at or above the method detection limit. Conversely, a test line with color below that of the control line intensity indicates a presumptive positive result. Presumptive positive samples may be confirmed using ELISA, HPLC, or another appropriate confirmatory analytical method.
